Project Accountant
Job description
ELOS Environmental, LLC is looking for a competent Project Accountant to support operations within our Hammond office. The successful applicant will be responsible for interfacing with Project Managers on assigned projects including billings, accounts payable revenue recognition, project forecasting and related responsibilities. The project accountant plays a crucial role in evaluating project profitability and ensuring the financial health of projects.
The successful applicant must have the ability to work diligently to help maintain smooth, efficient billing operations, and must be reliable and hardworking with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with accounting policies and procedures. The Project accountant will have the following Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor and analyze project financial data, including revenue, expense and profitability.
2. Identify trends, cost overruns, and financial risks to provide early insights to project managers
3. Understand the billing requirements of the projects; set up billing rate tables.
4. Generate invoices and support the billing submittal process to include preparation of backup documentation and submittal of invoices using online client portals.
5. Partner with the project manager and project team to establish the project budget, updating budgets, and making project accounting recommendations as needed when contract modifications or budget changes arise.
6. Verify contract and change order characteristics for projects that are of a moderate-level of complexity, including reading and interpreting contract language, method of compensation, modifications, purchase orders, and subcontract/consultant terms.
7. Maintain effective communication with clients regarding billing, payments, and financial inquiries.
8. Stay updated on best practices in project accounting and suggest improvements to streamline processes and enhance financial management.
Previous knowledge in construction, engineering, or other environmental experiences with contractual work is preferred.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
· 5 years’ Large Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills
· Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and accounting software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, MS Excel, pivot tables, formulas, data format/sort/filter, VLOOKUP, predictive models and tools
·Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines in a dynamic project environment
